Chapter 2: Quesanti's Mysterious Shop "What?!"
"Not eligible for adoption?"
"That's right!"
In an office at an orphanage called House in the Woods, located in the suburbs of New York.
The dean explained seriously: "Adoption is not a simple matter. We need to make sure that Emma gets real family love and necessary living conditions from you, and…"
"I understand, I understand."
Rango was too lazy to listen to the old man's long speech. He rushed here as soon as he got off the plane, but he didn't come here to listen to this.
After pulling out a checkbook from his pocket, he raised his finger and asked, "Please keep it simple. How much money do I need to donate to take my niece away? Ten thousand? Twenty thousand?"
Seeing the man in front of him with a carefree look, the dean raised his eyebrows and spread his hands, saying, "Then I'm sorry, Mr. Winchester, even if you are willing to donate, it doesn't directly make you eligible for adoption. I don't think you are ready to be an uncle yet."
"DAMN"
Rango cursed inwardly. He finally realized that this dean was a donkey and would not listen to anything.
However, the paradox is that when he thought about how this guy, as the orphanage director, remained unshakable in the face of the temptation of money and was so responsible, he couldn't help but feel a little bit of appreciation and admiration for him.
At this time, the atmosphere in the office gradually became quiet.
At this moment, Teddy, who had been watching the show beside him, suddenly raised his paw and asked tentatively, "So fifty thousand?"
Without waiting for the dean to speak, Teddy said, "Come on! This money is enough to buy hundreds of men in Africa! Don't tell me you can't even buy a girl in New York!"
As soon as these words came out, the dean's face instantly turned ugly. He looked at Teddy in front of him and slowly said, "I've seen you on TV. More than a decade ago, you were the darling of major advertisers and variety shows. But later I heard that you were kicked out of the entertainment industry because of alcoholism and ZZQS. I thought it was a rumor at first, but now it seems… Haha."
Teddy's expression froze when he heard this. When Rango first summoned him, he did enjoy a few years of glory. He could be seen as soon as you turned on the TV. It was no exaggeration to say that he was famous all over the country.
But just like Edward Furlong, Lindsay Lohan, Macaulay Culkin and others, he became out of fashion within a few years.
To make matters worse, he was banned by the entire Hollywood because of his ZZ discrimination against Squid and Ni Ge, and disappeared after owing a large sum of liquidated damages.
"Cough cough."
Rango coughed lightly, pushed Teddy, who was about to lose his temper, aside, and said to the dean: "In this case, just tell me directly what I need to do to be qualified to adopt Emma."
The dean shrugged and went on to explain in detail the conditions and procedures for adoption, including having a stable residence, a job, and a good family environment.
Finally, he looked at Rango and said seriously: "We will not hand over any child to an unemployed vagrant, so Mr. Winchester, I suggest you find a job first."
".I see."
Rango nodded, mentioned that Teddy still wanted to battle with the dean, and prepared to leave the office.
But just as they were about to open the door, the dean behind them suddenly reminded them: "Um, Mr. Winchester, you just said you would make a donation, you won't go back on your word, right?"
"."
In the yard at this time.
In front of the swing, a girl in a black dress was sitting on it. Her expression was cold, as if she was isolated from the world, and her whole body gave off an aura that said "keep away from strangers".
The next second, when she saw two figures walking towards her, a sweet smile instantly appeared on her originally gloomy face.
"Emma."
Rango, who donated a check, squatted down, touched her head gently, and said guiltily: "Your dean said that I must find a job before I am eligible to adopt you, so you may need to stay here for a while."
"It's okay, uncle." Emma leaned on his shoulder obediently and whispered, "I will always be here waiting for you to come back. The dean and the others are all good people. Don't worry, uncle."
"That's good," Rango said comfortedly, "In half a month at the latest, I will have the house and the job settled, and then you can move into your new home."
After comforting the girl for a few more words, Rango nodded and left the orphanage with Teddy.
His top priorities now are buying a house and finding a job.
As their figures gradually walked away, the smile on Emma's face gradually disappeared.
She sat back on the swing, crossed her legs, and tapped the ground lightly with her heels, as if she was thinking about something, or as if she was silently waiting for something.
In Queens, under the street lights at night, Rango and Teddy sat on a bench by the roadside, holding beer in their hands and both lit cigarettes.
Teddy asked first: "What should we do next Rango, find a job?"
"Not urgent."
Rango took a deep puff of cigarette, slowly exhaled smoke rings, frowned slightly, and seemed to be lost in thought.
Since he dropped out of college, he has been working as a "dream protector" or bodyguard in Africa with Cobb. As for professional skills, he only knows fighting and shooting.
As for finance, securities, medical and legal matters, I have never seen them before.
Now let him find a legitimate job. Should he become a shooting instructor? But he doesn't even have a certificate! Just then, the hawking sounds not far away attracted his attention.
"Look at all these jewels, these accessories, and these purses. My brother just stole them from Manhattan!"
"What? You said it's a fake? Damn it, look at the color of my skin! Do you think I would sell fakes? Besides, don't fakes cost money?!"
"You can question my character, but you can't question the product in my hand!"
"Come and buy it! Yes, just like that, move your left foot forward and your body will move naturally. That's called walking!"
"."
The seller was a short black man with a matte complexion. Just by looking at his skin color, you could tell that the goods in his hands were all genuine. Many of the packaging boxes even had anti-counterfeiting marks such as footprints and blood stains on them.
But what shocked Rango the most was that he seemed to know this black man who he had just bought for zero dollars.
"Kevin?"
The black man who heard someone calling him immediately looked over with caution. After seeing who it was, he suddenly became excited and incoherent: "Lanlango?!"
"Hahaha, Kevin! I knew it was you, kid!"
Rango strode over, raised his arm and clamped the boy under his armpit, and with his other hand he vigorously rubbed the guy's prickly curly hair.
"I haven't seen you for a few years. You've started your own business. How's it going? Do you still remember me, your big brother?"
"Shit! We are BFFF, how could I forget about you!"
The short black man pulled his head out of his arms with great difficulty, then excitedly pounded on his shoulders and yelled, "GOD Damn! Look, Rango, the famous bully in Queens, is finally back!"
Hearing this strange yet familiar name, Rango smiled. Just as he was about to speak, Teddy beside him asked in confusion, "What does BFFF mean? I've only heard of BFF (Best Friend Forever)."
Rango and Kevin smiled at each other, then shouted in unison: “Best F**King Friend Forever!!!”
